Border policies are a complete disaster, one legislator says.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik of New York, and other House committee ranking members introduced the Border Security of America Act on Thursday. The legislation aims to enhance security significantly at the United States-Mexico boundary as the border situation worsened for a sixth consecutive month.
“The Biden Administration’s failure to secure our southern border puts every American’s security at risk,” Representative Stefanik stated. She added that the president’s policies have caused “the worst border crisis we’ve seen in over 20 years,” citing the rising amount of people, drugs, and weapons crossing the southern border. She said members of the majority party “have turned their backs on our border patrol agents and law enforcement.”
New York Representative John Katko, the ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, said, “We’ve been down to the southern border several times to see this crisis firsthand and hear directly from those on the frontlines. This legislation tackles key shortcomings and weaknesses we’ve seen for ourselves that are fueling the border crisis.”
